What You Should Know About Looking The Number In Reverse and How to Do It
Reverse phone lookup is the process of finding the identity of someone given their phone number. This could include finding their name, address or any other personal (or company) details. You might want to do a reverse phone lookup if you got an anonymous call by a prankster or if you are receiving threats over the phone. In the latter case you should better contact your local law enforcement authorities. They have these reverse number databases they could use to find the abuser/criminal but proving there’s a crime could be difficult. When you cannot get help from the authorities you are on your own… well, almost – we are here to help!
The first and easiest thing you could do to find someone’s identity by their phone number is to search the web with google. Sometimes you’ll be able to find the number because it was either present in some open reverse lookup directory or because the owner himself has given his details to a website and they’ve made them publicly available (by mistake or not). If the number starts with an international calling prefix – “011” (used in North America), “00” (used in the European Union) or “+” you should remove it for better results since the code might be represented in different ways or missing altogether in the web pages. Also remove the country code following the prefix. You could check that code against to see which country the abuser is calling from. Removing the country code will ensure you include search results where the phone number is listed without the code meant for local calls.
If you don’t find any information in google your next option is using a dedicated reverse phone directory. Most such directories are not publicly available and usually require a fee to gain access. It could help to identify the area or mobile network code. The following lists will aid you:
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mobile_phone_number_series_by_country
Then you could search for specific directory listings, for example “reverse telephone directory Idaho” (enter without the quotes). Always search for more specific things first and then, if you don’t get any results, search for broader terms. In this case, if you don’t get any results for Idaho, continue searching for reverse directories for the United States. There’re also many dedicated applications for mobile phones that would do the search for you. Beware though, that some of them might ask you for access to your contact details. These application might use that info to further fill up their databases and thus make your (and your friends’) details available to others! So you are advised not to share your contacts with such applications.
